Since 2021, SAFE has been a EU Climate Pact Ambassador. The EU Climate Pact wants « to give everyone a voice and a space to design climate actions, share information, launch new and support existing activities, showcase solutions that others can follow ». It aims to engage the public as a whole (citizens and communities in action for climate and environment) and to inform, inspire and foster cooperation between people and organisations. The main idea of the Pact is to encourage broad societal engagement on climate and environment through a range of activities. These activities need to be real and concrete, which, for example, could include promoting commitments and supporting relevant initiatives through knowledge and capacity building, in order to enhance their impact and inspire further action in Europe and globally.

To this end, SAFE has worked to promote sounder consumption habits and more sustainable agricultural practices through concrete initiatives throughout the implementation of EU-funded projects under different programs – namely HORIZON EU, ESF, Erasmus+. SAFE developed work on food waste, which resonates with specific EU and international policies or initiatives. In 2021, SAFE developed its already existing work on food waste, which resonate with specific EU and international policies or initiatives. By speaking in EFSA events on food waste, drafting responses to consultations, reports and joint position that have been systemically and collectively shared online (i.e., when working alongside the Food Policy Coalition), SAFE managed to increase the food waste regulation package effectiveness. We believe our actions have contributed to the debate on food waste regulation packages, suggesting clear policy paths by repeatedly calling for strong binding reduction targets of 50% for both food waste and loss by 2030 across the entire food chain and demanding a more fit-for-purpose date marking EU framework in the context of the revised Food Information to Consumer Regulation.
