Communications Coordinator

We are opening a ‘Communications Coordinator’ position to support SAFE’s activities, possibly starting in June  2024.

You will play a pivotal role in giving visibility to SAFE’s mission and endeavours, shaping the communication strategy of the organisation and its implementation, and in raising awareness of the important link between health and nutrition.  

SAFE – Safe Food Advocacy Europe was created with the aim of ensuring that consumers’ health and concerns remain at the core of the EU’s food legislation. SAFE is currently the only Brussels-based NGO specialised in the protection and representation of EU consumers in the food sector. 

About The Role

The Communications coordinator will shape SAFE’s communication strategy, contribute to awareness-raising campaigns, support communications for the EU projects the organisation is involved in, and manage internal communications with members and the network. Their key responsibilities include:

Defining and implementing effective communication strategies to effectively convey the association’s mission, initiatives, and projects together with the management;

Overseeing and contributing to the production of graphics, messages, and multimedia content and the dissemination of this content through different communication channels such as SAFE’s website, newsletters, social media, press releases, publications, etc;

Overseeing and managing the content of SAFE’s website and social media channels, creating engaging content that resonates with our target audiences;

Managing relations with the media, drafting, proofreading, and disseminating press releases, promoting interviews;

Overseeing the creation of communications materials for SAFE and its projects.


What We Are Looking For

Master’s Degree or equivalent in communications, journalism or other relevant field, 5+ years’ professional experience in journalism or communications;

Previous experience of managing, supervising or mentoring others, ability to work within multi-cultural teams;

Be an independent, proactive, problem solver and team player person;

Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills in English, French desired. Additional European languages are a strong plus;

Experience with social media management and analytics tools and other communication tools (website content management tools, Mailchimp, Canva);

Experience in organising events, both in-person and online formats, is a plus;

Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere or other video editing tools is a plus;

Knowledge of the functioning of the European Union and experience in the Brussels bubble is a plus;

Legal eligibility to work in the EU.
